Comets Complete Indoor Season at AMC Championships, Finish 3rd

Elsah, Ill. – On Saturday, the Cottey College women's indoor track & field team traveled to Principia College in Illinois to compete at their first American Midwest Conference Indoor Championship.

Kicking off the day's events, Sara Golden (sophomore) and Madalenn Fee (freshman) hit the high jump mats with heights of 1.48m and 1.38m, respectively. Sara tied for a second-place finish while Madalenn finished sixth.

Following high jump, Madalenn continued her run in the long jump where she finished fourth with a distance of 5.03m.

A relay of Karina Gchachu (senior), Tessa Feazel (freshman), Katie Wright (junior) and Kyndal Soukup (freshman) opened the track events with the DMR in a sixth-place finish then three of the DMR's legs returned along with Taylor Rechenmacher (sophomore) for the 4X 800-meter relay to score a 3rd place finish.

Kicking off Cottey's record-setting streak, freshman Joliette Johnson took to the track in the 60-meter dash to run a time of 8.34.

Senior Ella Page began her high-scoring day with the 1-mile run. Ella finished in third with a personal best time of 5:34.95.

The 400-meter dash brought Cottey's highest scoring event of the day. Freshman Hannah Hayduk broke her own school record and took Cottey's first ever AMC Champion title with a 1:01.34 performance followed closely behind by teammate Joliette's 1:04.12 showing.

Ella Page returned with freshman Mikaela Fabey to run the 600-meter. Ella collected her second third place finish and Mikaela followed closely in seventh.

Junior Kiana Garcia kicked in her finish in the 800-meter for a fourth-place score and time of 2:41.45.

In an exciting showdown with two Missouri Baptist competitors, freshman Madalenn Fee finished third in the 1000-meter run with a school record and strong performance of 3:04.20. In her first collegiate attempt at the 1000-meter run, Madalenn's time is just two seconds off the NAIA national standard.

Adding to her collection of records, Hannah Hayduk scored seventh in the 200m-dash with a school record-breaking time of 27.74.

Finishing her day and finally grabbing a long-earned school record, Ella Page took the AMC Champion title in the 3000-meter run. Breaking a school record that has stood since 2016, Ella ran a time of 11:09.07.

To seal the deal on Cottey's third place team finish, the Comet's 4X 400-meter relay team capped off the meet with a record-breaking show and a second-place finish. Between Kiana Garcia (split 70.51), Mikaela Fabey (67.44), Joliette Johnson (split 63.84) and Hannah Hayduk (split 64.06), the team put together a total record time of 4:25.84.
