Comets Bounce Back from Tough Loss with Impressive Elimination Game Win over Williams Baptist

The Cottey College Comets survive and advance after a dominant 9-1 victory over the Williams Baptist Eagles in an elimination game. The win came after a tough 1-0 loss to Columbia College earlier in the day, in a pitching duel that saw the two co-AMC Pitchers of the Year face off.

Cottey College's Lacy Cruz put in a strong performance, striking out 9 batters and giving up just 1 run on 3 hits. Columbia's Ella Schouten struck out 12 batters while giving up no runs on 4 hits. Despite Cruz's best efforts, Columbia College took the victory and Cottey College faced a must-win game against Williams Baptist.

The Comets rose to the occasion, coming out swinging with a whopping 15 hits to Williams Baptist's 2. Alyssa Montoya led the charge, going a perfect 4-4 from the plate. Aryana Palencia also had a strong performance, going 2-4 and driving in two runs. Aariana Castillo went 2-4 with 1 RBI, while Lacey Cruz and Melina Bueno both went 2-3 batting.

On the mound, Brooke Vicory pitched a complete game for the Comets, giving up just 2 hits and striking out 1. It was a dominant performance from start to finish, as Cottey College's offense was firing on all cylinders and their defense held strong.

The victory over Williams Baptist sends the Comets through to the next round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. They will face Central Baptist in another must win game at 12:00 PM tomorrow. You can watch all the action here: https://columbiacougars.com/sports/2022/8/11/columbia-cougars-live-stream.aspx
