The Cottey Softball team returned to action with a midweek doubleheader at MidAmerica Nazarene, splitting the series 1-1.
Game 1 was a low scoring bout, with Cottey falling 2-1. Aryana Palencia provided the RBI on the day, hitting a solo Home Run and going 2 for 2 at the plate. Amelia Gassman went the entire was for the Comets in the pitching circle, limiting the Pioneers while striking out 4 batters. Karina Ramirez went 2-3 at the plate, continuing to lead the Comets in batting average.
Game 2 had some more action, with the Comets scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning, and holding MNU to 1 to capture the 6-5 win. Elizabeth Thomas went a perfect 4-4 at the plate, driving in 5 of the teams RBIs. Senior Madison Hyder also went 3-3 from the plate to notch a perfect on-base percentage and scoring a run. Alyssa Montoya took the pitchers circle in this one, going all 7 innings to get the win. Montoya raised her pitching record to 3-0 on the year.
The Comets sit a 3-6 overall on the year, but finally get some home action this weekend, as they host Evangel for a double header on Saturday. Game 1 is set to start at 1pm, with Game 2 to follow.
