
Nevada, MO – Cottey College has announced the appointment of Emma Gurien as the newest addition to the Cottey College athletic coaching staff. As the incoming cheer and dance coach, Gurien brings a wealth of experience and expertise, having been a member of the cheerleading squad at the University of Memphis.
Gurien holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Memphis and pursued a master's degree in sports and exercise psychology at Springfield College.
"We are elated to welcome Emma Gurien to the Cottey College family," said Dr. Maryann Mitts, Athletic Director at Cottey College. "Her practical experience as a college cheerleader and her academic background in sports psychology provides a winning formula that will undoubtedly enhance our cheer and dance program. Emma's passion towards building a program from its infancy is contagious and her ability to understand the psychological aspects involved in sports and competition unmatched."
As the new Cheer and Dance Coach, Gurien is poised to lead Cottey College's cheerleading and dance teams into their first season of competition slated for fall 2024.
Gurien said, "Starting the competitive cheer and dance program at Cottey College is both a challenging and exciting honor. I am anxious to start recruiting for the inaugural season and look forward to our programs adding to the game-day experience at Comet athletic events."
