Overwatch grabs first Win of Semester during Week 2 of NACE Competition

The Cottey Comets esports team was back in action for Week 2 of National Association of Collegiate Esports action.

Cottey's Overwatch team would grab their first Win of the semester in what would be the highlight of the week. The Comets mixed and matched multiple lineups throughout the match, keeping Saint Xavier on their back foot on the way to a 3-1 series victory. In each NACE division, 8 teams vie for 6 playoff spots, with the winner being crowned divisional champions for each semester. So each victory puts the squad one step closer to securing a playoff spot. Overwatch will take on Concordia College next Tuesday at 7:30pm. Matches are streamed at twitch.tv/cotteyesports.

Valorant did not fare as well during their first time out this season, falling to Bellevue University 0-2. The Comets had a bye in week 1, while the other squads had competition to knock the rust off. The Comets took a quick 2-0 lead in Game 1, but could not capitalize and ended up falling 13-5. Game 2 found the Comets on an unfavorable map, as Bellevue took advantage to close out the match. Senior Lucy Liu had 16 Kills in Game 1, with Amya Corulla just behind with 14 Kills. Gibsun Harkins was the third Comet in double figures with 11 Kills. The Valorant squad takes on Carolina University next week on Wednesday at 6pm.

Super Smash Bros had a mixed bag of results. After taking Week 1 in a forfeit victory, the Comets fell to Hill College 2-0 in their debut this season. Cottey had two freshmen make their collegiate debut as Kanik Surles and Nicole Finke each stepped into the virtual arena for the first time. Cottey will take on Colorado Mesa University in next week's matchup on Thursday at 7:30pm.
