Esports Round-Up: Week 5

Esports Round-Up: Week 5

The esports program had a busy week, taking on the usual National Association of Collegiate Esports competition, while also traveling to Simpson College for a weekend matchup. Overwatch led the way for the Comets, putting up a 2-0 record on the week. Junior Kyleigh Sigears' efforts as the Tank and shotcaller for the Overwatch team made her a worthy selection as player of the week for the team. The Comets took down Simpson 3-0 in a weekend showmatch, before taking down Ottawa University-Arizona in a 3-0 scoreline as well. The Overwatch squad is finding their stride at just the right time, with the final week of the regular season up next, followed by the divisional playoffs. Overwatch will take on Hill College at 7:30pm on Tuesday before learning their seed for the playoffs.

Valorant is still working to find their groove, as they fell to Simpson 2-1 in a barnburner. Simpson has been a storied rival for the Comets, matching up in each of the past three seasons in the playoffs; with the Comets taking two out of three. This time though, it was the Storm having the upper hand. Then, the Comets took on Mount St. Joseph University, falling 2-0 in that contest. The Valorant squad takes on the top seed University of Houston-Downtown in their final regular season matchup before finding out their seed for the playoffs.

Super Smash Bros had an interesting week. The Comets garnered two victories by forfeit in NACE competition, but did get to take on the Simpson College Storm during the road trip. The Comets fell 2-0, but have made tremendous strides all season long. By virtue of the three wins, the Smash team is guaranteed a playoff spot, waiting to see which opponent they will take on. They compete against Highland Community College in their final regular season matchup.
