
The Cottey Comets took down the Graceland Yellowjackets 58-0 in a home contest on Wednesday.
Cottey got the game started off right with an interception by Kenzie Murdoch on the opening possesion of the game. They followed that up with a quick strike score from Amya Corulla on a scramble up the right side. She found Jonalynn Tolentino for the 2pt conversion to take a quick 8-0 lead. The Comets would continue to control the game, with a few firsts on the scoreboard. Suzanne Aubert had her first 2 sack game, but also logged her first Touchdown as a Comet, catching a 3 yard pass and powering into the endzone. Laurencia Botts caught her first 2-point conversion on a crossing pattern from 10 yards out. Karla Martinez also logged her first 2 point conversion, to go along with 17 yards receiving.
Amya Corulla would be the leader through the air and on the ground, scoring 3 rushing touchdowns and clearing 100 yards rushing. Corulla's 118 rushing yards marks 2nd best in a game in program history, and is just the 2nd 100-yd performance on the ground. Angie Cruz was a flag pulling machine, grabbing 6 tackles and snagging an interception. Joliette Johnson caught 3 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. Shamese Lee would be the leader in receptions and receiving yards to pace the Comets, to go along with 3 flag pulls on defense.
The Comets win raises their record to 3-7 Overall; they return to action Saturday in a home contest against Kansas Wesleyan at 1pm.
