Comets Fall in Tight Contest at Southwestern

Comets Fall in Tight Contest at Southwestern

In a game that went down to the wire, the Cottey Comets fell just short in a close contest to Southwestern 13-6.

Southwestern was the first to strike in the 2nd quarter when they drove 54 yards in 5 plays to take a 6-0 lead. The extra point conversion would fail as the Cottey defense would hold strong. Cottey would strike back just a few minutes later when Xitlali Botts would take a 56 yard pass from Amya Corulla to the house. The conversion would fail, but the score would stay 6-6 until halftime.

In the 2nd half, it was a defensive struggle, with neither team punching it into the endzone for almost the entire 2nd half. However, Southwestern would get loose on a 27 yard pass and conversion to make it a 13-6 game with just under 30 seconds remaining. A few incompletions and a sack would sink Cottey's comeback attempt in the final moments of the contest.

Amya Corulla was the leading passer for the Comets, with Xitlali Botts being the leading receiver with the touchdown. On defense, Alina Jeanbaptiste was the leader with 6 tackles, while Corulla had 2 sacks.

Cottey falls to 1-4 Overall on the season. They return home for their next contest on March 19th against Graceland University. Gametime is set for 6pm.
