
The Cottey Comets finally broke out of their rut to score a big victory at home over the Bethel Threshers 63-6.
It was all Cottey from the start, with the offense having a banner day on the way to a victory. Quarterback Amya Corulla did most the damage through the air, putting up 405 yards in the win, to go along with 8 Touchdowns and 7 XP Passes. All three of those marks would set single game records in Cottey history. She would also log 28 yards on the ground, along with a 2XP rush. The ball was spread around, with six Comets logging two or more receptions. Tahmya Squire was the leader receiving, with 164 yards on 8 catches, scoring 2 TDs. Lesley Chalmers logged 3 receiving Touchdowns on 6 catches for 68 yards. Raniya Griffin, Xitlali Botts, and Alina Jeanbaptiste each recording a receiving TD for the Comets.
On defense, Jeanbaptiste led the way with 9 Tackles, with Laurencia Botts just behind with 6. Four Comets would grab interceptions, with Xitlali Botts, Tahmya Squire, Lesley Chalmers, and Raniya Griffin each forcing a turnover. Squire's INT would go for a defensive touchdown.
63 points is a new single-game record for the Comets.
Cottey now stands at 2-5 on the season, including 2-5 in KCAC conference action. They go on the road to take on William Woods on Wednesday, with a 6pm start.
