Cottey Survive Two Elimination Games to Advance to AMC Softball Championship

The Cottey College Comets softball team fought their way to the American Midwest Conference Championship Game after surviving two intense elimination games. In the first game, the Comets faced off against the Central Baptist Mustangs and came out on top with a 4-3 win. Lauren Johnson, Kristen Hurst, Aariana Castillo, and Lacy Cruz all contributed to the score with key hits and a little help from some Mustangs errors. Pitcher Lacy Cruz threw an impressive game, allowing only one hit and striking out six batters.

In their second elimination game, the Comets went head-to-head with the Missouri Baptist Spartans in a rematch of a nail-biting 11 inning game earlier in the season. The game was tied at 1-1 until the sixth inning, when Alyssa Montoya hit a slow roller down the third base line, scoring the tying run. Palencia was walked, and Jenna Wilson then hit a double, bringing in three runs for the Comets. The Spartans tried to mount a two-out rally in the seventh, scoring two runs, but it was not enough to overcome the Comets' lead. Pitcher Brooke Vicory pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits but managing to shut down any potential scoring opportunities for the Spartans.

Now, the Comets are set to take on the Columbia College Cougars in the AMC Championship Game. This is a rematch of a game earlier in the tournament, which the Comets lost 1-0. The Comets will need to win twice in order to become the AMC Tournament Champions, while the Cougars only need one win.
