Comets Softball Comes Back 3-3 from Texas

Comets Softball Comes Back 3-3 from Texas

The Cottey Comets Softball squad kicked off their season down in Texas, coming home with a 3-3 record to show for their efforts.

Day one was the best showing for the Comets, as they took down Bethany College 9-7 and Oklahoma Wesleyan 5-1 on the opening day. Abigail McPherson went 4.1 innings against Bethany, while Alyssa Cloessner and Braylen Ford finished out pitching duties in Game one. The offense was highlighted by a double from Halen Hoelzeman and a home run from Amelia Gassman. Against Oklahoma Wesleyan, Gassman went the entire way in the pitching circle. Hoelzeman would power the offense once again with a solo home run.

Day two was a mixed bag, going 1-1. The Comets would take down Nelson (TX), while falling to Oklahoma City University. Gassman got the start against Nelson, going all 7 innings for the 8-4 victory. The Comets would get extra base hits from Hoelzeman, Gassman, and Audra Tabita in the contest. The OCU game is where the fatigue began to set in. Abigail McPherson would pitch the entire contest, but the Comets would struggle to get anything going, falling 11-0.

The final day saw the Comets drop two tough contests to Southwestern Christian and University of Science and Arts.

Cottey's schedule for the upcoming week is shifting due to weather, but be sure to check in to cotteycomets.com for all the action with the softball squad.
