After a whirlwind of snow and ice, the Cottey Comets were finally able to get back on the diamond on Monday down in Branson, MO, for a tournament. The Comets drew NCAA Divison II Nebraska-Kearney in the first contest, falling 10-1. The 2nd contest saw the Comets take on Evangel, falling by a score of 3-0.
The first contest saw Audra Tabita take the mound first, with Alyssa Cloessner coming in for pitching duties most of the contest. The Lopers jumped on the scoreboard early in the contest, as Cottey struggled to get anything going offensively. The lone bright spot at the pllate was Senior Bailey Cravens going 2-3 in the contest. Aariana Castillo would grab the other hit on the day, while Estelle Audette would get on base and make it home to score the lone run for the Comets.
Game two was much more competitive, but fell to Evangel 3-0. The Valor would score a run in each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, but that would be enough to take the contest. Abigail McPherson went the entire way in the circle, but only saw the Comets manage 2 hits on offense. Estelle Audette and Aariana Castillo logged the hits for the Comets, while Halen Hoelzeman got on base twice with a pair of walks.
The Comets record stands at 3-5 Overall. They take on Bethany College and Morningside in today's contests in Branson. Game times are noon and 2:30pm.
