Cottey Softball got back on the right track friday for a double-header with MidAmerica Nazarene. The bats got hot and the defense did just enough to take both contests; 11-4 and 13-9.
Game 1 saw Amelia Gassman go the entire contest, throwing all seven innings worth of work to get the win. For the Comets, it was a nuke show, getting three home runs. Makayla Snyder, Grayce Taylor, and Lore Arrellano would all go yard to power the Cottey offense. Taylor had a nearly perfect performance, going 4 for 4 from the plate, including a double to go with her home run, and 3 RBIs. Gassman would add some offense to her defensive effort, garnering a triple and a double while scoring twice.
Game 2 was a little rockier goings, with Abigail McPherson taking the start. McPherson would go 5.2 innings to get the win, striking out two in the process. Amelia Gassman would come in for the save. A pair of seniors went 4-5 at the plate in game 2, with Bailey Cravens and Aariana Castillo each having 2 RBIs apiece. Estelle Audette would go 3-4 at the plate, while Grayce Taylor would notch another Home Run.
The wins would raise Cottey's record to 6-8 on the year; they return to action today in Branson, MO for a tournament.
