The Cottey College Comets notch another home win as they extend their record to 2-0 with a home win versus Avila at Hinkhouse on October 29, 2022. Foster London from Avila made the first basket of the day, but Cottey quickly hit back with a three pointer from Derin Akdeniz and the Comets never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the game. A fiery first quarter had the Comets leading Avila 24-15 at the end of the first quarter. Derin Akdeniz led the Comets in the first quarter with 9 points, while going 6 for 9 from the field including three 3-pointers.
It was an icy second quarter for both teams, with the Comets out scoring the Avila Eagles 9-7. Nicole Hagerman and Emanuela Almeida however were hot on the boards with 9 combined rebounds in the second quarter. The comets went into the half with a 33-22 lead.
Claudia Hadlock powered the Comets through the second half scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.
