Cottey Defeats Ecclesia, 64-42

Nevada, Mo. – The Cottey College Comets basketball team won tonight against Ecclesia College Royals 64-42 at Hinkhouse on December 6, 2022.   

The Comets (6-4) were led in points by Claudia Hadlock with 18 points with an impressive 6 for 8 from the field, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc and perfect 3 for 3 from the line.  Hadlock also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.  Olivia Pruitt also going double digits for the Comets with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.  Dally Coulter leading the charge for the Comets on the boards with 11 rebounds.  Coulter also put up 5 points, 2 assists, and a steal. 
 
The Royals (4-8) putting in a total team effort having had production points from every single member of the team.  The Royals were led by Rakyla Russell 9 points, 3 assists, and 1 steal. 
 
Two opening three pointers for the Comets set the tone for the game as the Comets put up 20 to the Royals 5 in the first quarter. Madison Bailey put up all 5 points for the Royals in the first quarter.  The Comets ended the first quarter strong with a steal and a layup with 10 seconds on the clock, to head into the second quarter up 15.

The Comets increased their lead by another 4 points in an even paced second quarter.  The Royals answered nearly every made shot by the Comets until late in the quarter when the Comets went for 7 unanswered points.  A buzzer beater layup by Aneesah Herrera for the Royals, kept the Comet lead under 20 heading into half.  
 
Hadlock opened up the second quarter with a quick layup and three pointer to add to the Comet lead and set the pace once again in the second half.  A late foul and two made free throws by Karley Painter from the Comets had the Comets up 58-29 at the end of the third quarter.  
 
 Up next for the Comets will be conference opponent Columbia College at 5:30 pm on December 15, 2022 at Hinkhouse in Nevada, Missouri.
