
St. Louis, MO. – The Cottey College Comets (9-12, 5-9) basketball team dropped their conference road contest against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics (16-5, 12-2) by a score of 61-49 at UHSP Gymnasium on January 28, 2023.
The Comets were led in that effort by Dally Coulter with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. Sarah Hunt scored 12 points with 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Ndeye Ndiaye led the Comets on the boards with 10 rebounds, 7 points, and 4 assists.
The Eutectics were led by Grace Beyer with 41 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Elizabeth Allanach scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, and Makenzie Schierding led the Eutectics on the boards with 14 rebounds and 2 points.
Ndeye Ndiaye for the Comets claim the first basket of the game. Immediately answered with a layup by Grace Beyer to even up the score to ignite a 12-2 run by the Eutectics that carries them through to the final minute of the first quarter. The Eutectics would never relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. Dally Coulter scores a layup in the final minute of the quarter. Only to be answered by a Elizabeth Allanach 3 pointer to give the Eutectics a 9 point lead heading into the second quarter.
The lead remains the same as the teams trade baskets in an even start to the second quarter. A string of Grace Beyer free throws (Beyer was a perfect 8 -8 from the line in the second quarter) in the final three minutes gives the Eutectics at 15 point lead. Dally Coulter sinks a 3 pointer and one from the line in the final seconds of the game to cut the Eutectic lead to 11 heading in to the half.
The Eutectics sink the first four points out of the gate in the second half. The Comets answer back with an 8-0 run to cut the Eutectic lead to 7 points halfway through quarter three. The lead would stay at 7 through the remainder of the quarter until an Emily Coleman 3 pointer with .03 seconds in the quarter puts the Eutectics lead back to 10.
The Eutectics would outscore the Comets 15-13 in the fourth quarter to stroll to a 61-49 victory. Grace Beyer scoring all 15 of the Eutectic points in the final quarter of the game, including nabbing another 6 of 6 from the line. The Comets hitting 39% of their shots in the fourth quarter, but they are unable to recovery from the strong start for the Eutectics.
