In a closely contested matchup, the Cottey Comets came away with a road victory over the Avila Eagles. The game played out similarly to last years matchup, with Cottey grabbing a lead and keeping the Eagles just out of reach until the final horn sounded. Cottey was led in scoring by Autumn Wallace, who poured in 22 points, playing all 40 minutes of the contest. Junior Sarah Hunt continued her streak of scoring in double figures by adding 17, while Sara Montesdeoca also put up double figures with 10. While there was some foul trouble, the Comets went with a short rotation, only bringing one player off the bench.
The Comets shot very well from the free throw line, converting at a 83% clip from the line. The Comets jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead, but the rest of the game was tightly contested. As the clock ticked closer to the end, the Comets were nails from the Free Throw line, ensuring the victory.
The win was Maryann Mitts' 299th victory. The team goes on the road north once again on Saturday at Park University, with a chance to push Coach Mitts into the 300-win club. The game is slated to begin at 2pm and can be watched via stream at: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/parkbuccaneers/
