The holiday break was short for the Cottey College basketball squad, as they traveled to Park University on Saturday for a weekend contest. The Buccaneers held the advantage throughout the game, until the Comets made a huge 4th quarter comeback attempt. Down by 17 early in the 4th quarter, the Comets made their run, cutting the lead to just 2 with just 37 seconds remaining. Cottey opted to guard the Bucs to try to keep the game a 2-point deficit, and they did, with Eden Billups missing her shot with 8 seconds remaining. However, the long rebound bounced around before being corraled by the Bucs, and the foul to send them to the line at the end of the game. They sank both free throws to make the final 58-54 margin.
The Comets were led by Sarah Hunt and Autumn Wallace, putting in 21 and 17 points respectively. Dally Coulter led the Comets in rebounding, grabbing 8 total. Sarah Hunt also dished out 6 assists and had 3 steals, contributing all over the court. The comeback bid came up short, and Cottey falls to 4-3 on the year.
Cottey returns to action Wednesday November 29th at 6pm, in a home contest against Randall University.
