If there is one thing that persists in College Basketball throughout time, it is the fact that it is difficult to win on the road. That proved true once again on Thursday evening as the Cottey Comets fell to Williams Baptist 88-77.
The game was a battle the entire way, as Williams Baptist jumped out to a 26-19 lead after the first quarter. The Comets would answer back, taking the second from 20-13, leading to a halftime score of 39-39. It would remain tight throughout the third quarter, with the Comets taking a slim 2 point lead into the 4th. However, that is where the Eagles took over. They outscored the Comets 28-15 in the final frame, shooting 84.6% from the field to take the victory.
Cottey was led on the night by Claudia Hadlock with 21 points. Sarah Hunt, Autumn Wallace, and Dally Coulter each reached double figures scoring as well, with 18, 13, and 12 points respectively. Coulter was also the leading rebounder for the game, grabbing 10 boards to complete her double-double. Sarah Hunt also had 5 rebounds and 5 assists to help the Comets stay in the game.
The loss drops the Comets to 12-8 overall, 4-6 in AMC play. They return to action on the road on Saturday at Central Baptist, with a 1pm tipoff.
