The Cottey College Comets Basketball team were looking for a bounce back after coming up short on Thursday evening, and bounce back they did, toppling the Central Baptist Mustangs 66-56. It was the Comets 13th victory on the season, which is a new record for the program since entering NAIA competition. The Comets record was lifted to 13-8 Overall, and 5-6 in AMC play. The new mark for wins comes with over a half dozen games remaining on the schedule for the Comets, with the opportunity to further elevate that mark.
As for Saturday afternoon's contest, once again it was Sarah Hunt leading the way for the Comets, putting 28 points on the board. Claudia Hadlock and Sara Montesdeoca joined her in double figures with 12 and 13 points respectively. Dally Coulter was the leader on the glass, grabbing 8 rebounds, while also garnering 2 steals on the defensive end.
The Comets controlled each of the opening quarters in each half, building up leads in each frame, while Central Baptist would respond in the 2nd and 4th quarters to make the game closer. However, by the time the 4th quarter rolled around, the Comets advantage had been built up enough to keep enough distance as their opponents closed the gap. In the end, it was a 10 point victory for the Comets, making some history in the process.
The Comets return to action at home on Thursday, February 8th at 5:30pm, against Stephens College.
