The regulation time for college basketball is 40 minutes. That wasn't enough time to separate the Cottey Comets and the Missouri Baptist Spartans on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans would take over in overtime and secure the win with a final margin of 84-76.
Cottey came out strong in the first quarter, fueled by 6 points from Autumn Wallace, leading after one frame 19-12. However, the Spartans would answer back in the 2nd to even the score up at halftime, 34-34. Each team would score 20 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters, with Cottey tying the game in the final seconds on a Sarah Hunt basket. In overtime though, it was all Missouri Baptist.
On the night, Sarah Hunt was the leading scorer for the Comets, putting 23 points in the basket. Autumn Wallace and Dally Coulter contributed 11 and 13 respectively. Coulter also grabbed a game high 15 rebounds, while Jya Barksdale and 4 assists and 3 steals. The Comets struggeld from the free throw line, only converting on 50% of their chances.
The loss drops the Comets to 13-10 Overall, 5-8 in AMC play. The Comets have a busy schedule this week, with Home contests against Hannibal-LaGrange and William Woods on Tuesday and Thursday, followed by a road trip to Harris-Stowe Saturday.
