Comets Cruise to Victory Over McPherson College

Comets Cruise to Victory Over McPherson College

The Cottey College Comets put on a good performance Tuesday night before the Thanksgiving break, defeating McPherson College 64-39 in a decisive non-conference matchup. From the opening tip-off, it was clear the Comets were in control. A quick post-up move by senior Autumn Wallace on the first play of the game followed by a three-pointer from senior Sarah Hunt would set the tone. The Comets continued to build on that momentum, using tough defense to extend their advantage. By the end of the first quarter, Cottey had built a commanding 17-6 lead.
In the second quarter, the Comets' offense began to find its rhythm, with freshman guard Brecklen Morrison knocking down two three-pointers, and senior Dally Coulter adding six points from the paint. With strong defensive play limiting McPherson's scoring opportunities, Cottey went into the halftime break with a comfortable 37-17 lead.
The second half saw more of the same dominance from the Comets. Junior guard AuShae Farris caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting three three-pointers in the half. Meanwhile, Wallace continued her impressive play, contributing eight points in the second half alone to help seal the win.
Wallace was the standout player of the night, leading all scorers with 14 points and adding 9 rebounds—7 of which were offensive boards. Farris added 12 points, including four three-pointers, while Coulter contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds. Morrison also had an efficient performance, scoring 8 points and hitting 2-of-3 from deep.
Defensively, the Comets were stifling, holding McPherson to just 24% shooting for the game. No McPherson player managed to score more than 6 points.
The victory improves the Comets' record to 6-2 as they prepare to return to American Midwest Conference (AMC) play. Cottey will be back in action on December 5th against Central Baptist College, with tip-off set for 5:30 PM.
