The winter break is officially over for Cottey Basketball, taking a road trip east for a conference slate. The opening contest was in St. Louis at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, where Cottey would take down the Eutectics 75-56.
UHSP would come out firing, taking a 22-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. Autumn Wallace was the main buoy keeping the Comets afloat during the quarter, putting up 9 in the opening quarter. Cottey would finally get in gear during the second quarter, led by Dally Coulter's 8 points, outscoring the Eutectics 19-10 in the second frame to take a 35-32 lead into in the locker room. Coming out of the break, it was a balanced attack for Cottey, taking the final two frames en route to the 75-56 victory.
On the night, it was a three-pronged charge to lead the scoring for the Comets; Autumn Wallace led all scorers 24 points, Sarah Hunt contributed 20, and Dally Coulter pouring in 18 points. Wallace and Coulter each grabbed 8 boards, with Hunt just behind logging 7. Coulter's 4 assists would lead the team in a great all-around night. Jya Barksdale stepped into the starting lineup for the evening, providing a defensive spark with 4 steals in the contest.
The win elevates Cottey to 9-4 Overall, and 5-2 in American Midwest Conference play.
The Comets will stay in St. Louis, with a matchup on Saturday at Harris-Stowe set for a 1pm tipoff.
