Winning on the road is tough in the American Midwest Conference, but the Cottey Comets were up to the task on Tuesday night. The Comets would take a 73-65 victory over the William Woods Owls.
It was a tight contest for most of the evening, with William Woods coming out firing in the 1st quarter. The Owls would outscore the Comets 23-22 in the frame. The Comets strong defense would finally show up in the 2nd quarter, limiting the Owls to 12 points, while scoring 18 of their own to take a 40-35 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter would be another back and forth affair with Cottey extending their lead to 60-51 after three frames. WWU would take the 4th quarter, but it would not be enough to catch the Comets as Cottey would secure the road victory.
There were a few milestones hit during the contest. Senior Sarah Hunt became the 2nd Comet all-time to score 1000 points in their career. Hunt was the leading scorer on the night with 24 points, hitting the 1k mark in the 3rd quarter. Senior Sara Montesdeoca would move into 4th all-time in Assists in program history. Other Comets moved ever closer to some long standing records as well, which may be perfect for the upcoming Senior Day on Saturday.
The Comets next contest is Senior Day, on Saturday against Harris-Stowe. The contest is set for a 1pm tipoff. It is not the final home game, as the contest scheduled for Thursday night against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy has been rescheduled due to weather.
