Comets Close Home Schedule with Win over UHSP

The weather may have impacted the schedule, but the Cottey Comets stayed right on track through their final homestand at the Hinkhouse Center. Cottey would take down Harris-Stowe on Saturday before a quick turnaround to battle University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Monday. 

Saturdays contest saw the Comets take down the Hornets 64-42. Sarah Hunt, newest addition to the 1000 point club, would lead all scorers with 19, while Autumn Wallace would add 15 for Cottey. It was a special day, as Senior Sara Montesdeoca would become the All-Time Leading Rebounder in Cottey History. Montesdeoca and Hunt would be honored pregame against UHSP for their recent acheivements. Dally Coulter would be the leading rebounder for the Comets, grabbing 10 boards on her way up to 3rd All-Time in Career Rebounds at Cottey. 

The game was back and forth in the first half, a true defensive struggle leading to a 19-19 halftime score. The Comets would kick it in gear in the 2nd half on the way to the 64-42 win.

Then, on Monday, Cottey would host the Eutectics of UHSP in a rescheduled contest. Cottey would control the flow of the game a bit better on their way to a 65-49 win to close out the home slate. 

Cottey would have two players complete double-doubles, with Sarah Hunt scoring 13 and grabbing 10 boards, and Autumn Wallace putting up 10 points and 11 rebounds. Claudia Hadlock would join them in double figures with 14, the leading scorere for Cottey on the night. Brecklen Morrison would add 9 off the bench for Cottey, while Akyria James would have 5 assists for the Comets. 

Cottey's record lifts to 18-8 Overall, 14-6 in American Midwest Conference play. They have secured a spot in postseason play, guaranteed at least the 5 seed in the conference tournament. Cottey finishes the regular season on the road, with tilts at Crowley's Ridge and Williams Baptist this week before the AMC tournament next week.
