For the first half, it looked like the home team Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge might take the Thursday night contest against the Cottey Comets, but a 20-4 3rd quarter would power Cottey to a 57-46 win.
In the first quarter, it seemed like there was a layer of shrinkwrap on Cottey's rim, as the Comets could not get a shot to fall. They would end the 1st with 6 total points, in which 4 of those came from Free Throws. The 1-18 from the field, resulting in a 5.6% field goal percentage was easily the lowest of the season. That included going 0-9 from the 3 point line. Cottey would return to form in the 2nd quarter, but the first quarter hole still remained with the halftime score being 29-21 in favor of the Pioneers.
The second half was a different story, as Cottey would go on a big run in the 3rd. In the 4th, Sarah Hunt would take over, scoring 11 of the Comets final 16 points on the way to the victory. Autumn Wallace was the leading scorer and rebounder in the contest, putting up a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Hunt would also grab a double-double, with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Claudia Hadlock would make it a trio of scorers in double figures with 13 points. Akyria James would dish out 8 assists in the contest.
The win elevates Cottey to 19-8 Overall, 15-6 in American Midwest Conference play. The 19th win on the season matches the Single Season Win Total record in program history.
Cottey has one regular season contest remaining, at Williams Baptist, before taking on the AMC Tournament next week.
