Golden's Runner Up leads Comets to 2nd Place Finish

Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, KS was the site of the kickoff to the new campaign for the Cottey Comets Golf team. It was a measuring stick, and a successful outing for the Comets in their first action of 2024-25. Senior Sara Golden led the team with a pair of 82's on the tournament, garnering a Runner-Up finish in the event. Dally Coulter was also in the Top 10, grabbing 6th place. Those performances helped the Comets snag 2nd place as a team in the event.

Senior Madeline Brennaman made big improvements on Day 2, shooting nine shots better as a veteran leader for the team. It was also the first taste of collegiate action for Freshmen Nora Schuh and Savanah Topping, with both gaining valuable experience on the course before the Comets' Championship season in the spring. Sophomore Riley Severance also saw a big jump in performance on Day 2, shooting fourteen strokes better.

This season sees the Comets have one of the larger rosters in years, with competition heating up for spots. Cottey will compete at four Fall events, which are tuneups for the spring championship season. Cottey will compete at the Scots Fall Invitational, Evangel Fall Invitational, and the William Woods Owl Fall Invitational over the next month and a half. Each team may enter 5 varsity golfers to compete for the team score, with the top 4 scores counting in the team results. Additionally, others may compete as individuals, so lineup decisions will be a tactical call for first year head coach Caleb Tipton.

Next up for the Comets is the Scots Fall Invitational, hosted by Lyon College at The Course at Eagle Mountain in Batesville, AR.
