Comets Weekend Roundup

Comets Weekend Roundup

The Cottey College Track squad was back in action over the weekend, while the Basketball squad continued their homestand against Williams Baptist Saturday, making for an exciting weekend of action.

The Indoor Track team made their way north to the Coach Alsup Invite, hosted by Northwest Missouri State. The Comets had a limited slate competing, but still managed to come away with some impressive finishes. The 4x800m relay team of Madalenn Fee, Mikaela Fabey, Kate Soukup and Hannah Hayduk set a new school record in the event with a time of 10:13.79, which was solid enough to win the entire event. Another school record fell in the 3000m race, when Madalenn Fee put up a time of 10:25.63 on her way to a 5th place finish. Jessie Mick joined Fabey, Soukup, and Hayduk in the 4x400m relay, with the team clocking a 4:23.16 in their debut. No team scores were kept for the event.

Indoor Track returns to action next week, when the team heads to Pittsburg State University for the NAIA/JUCO Invitational on January 25th.

Cottey Basketball took on Williams Baptist in a matchup of Top 4 teams in the American Midwest Conference, with the Eagles taking the contest 79-66. The Comets held the game close the entire time, but Williams Baptist was able to keep Cottey at bay as the clock rolled down in the 4th quarter. Sarah Hunt was the leading scorer for the Comets, putting up 14 points on the board. Autumn Wallace and Lesley Chalmers each pitched in 12 points to score in double figures. Wallace was also the leading rebounder for the Comets, grabbing 7 boards. Foul trouble limited the Comets post players, as Williams Baptist would force a season high amount of turnovers on the Comets.

Cottey's record falls to 11-5 Overall, and 7-3 in AMC play. Cottey hits the road this week, with matchups at Missouri Baptist and Stephens College on the docket.
