The Cottey College Comets Indoor Track season was back in action over the weekend, traveling to Pittsburg State University for the NAIA/JUCO Challenge. No team scores were held for the event, but it gave the Comets a good chance to see where their times stack up against the competition.
Cottey competed in six events, with one Comet hitting a "B" standard qualification for the 2025 NAIA Indoor National Championships. Madalenn Fee took 1st place in the 1000m race, while also hitting the "B" qualification standard in the event. The qualification is Fee's second consecutive season qualifying for the Indoor National Championships, held in Gainesville, Florida this year. Fee wasn't the only Comet in the 1000m race, as Senior Mikaela Fabey took 9th place in the event. The 4x400m relay would also end up in a top-10 slot, taking 8th in that event.
Avery Morris, Kyndal Soukup, and Taylor Rechenmacher took on their first 3000m indoor race of the season, shifting from marathon training to the indoor season. The trio competed at the NAIA Marathon Nationals a few weeks ago, now shifting their training to the Track. In the 600m race, Joliette Johnson took 11th, while Mikaela Fabey was just behind in 15th, and Freshman Jessie Mick took 19th. Mick also competed in the 400m dash alongside Hannah Hayduk. Hayduk, the 2-time reigning Outdoor Conference Champion in the 400m, also competed in her first 200m race of the season.
The Comets return to action next weekend in Wichita, Kansas at the Coach Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wichita State University.
