Comets Take 6th at American Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships

The Cottey College Track & Field team headed east to compete in the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships April 30th and May 1st. Cottey would compete in a variety of events, eventually taking home 6th place on the women's side of the competition. 

Day one started with the Shot Put, where Heather Hayduk would take 21st place. Hayduk would also compete in the Discus, where she would take 24th place. Madalenn Fee was the next Comet to compete when she took on the 3k Steeplechase. Fee, already a National Qualifier in the event, took home the bronze medal Wednesday. The 4x800m relay team was the next to take the starting line, with Jessie Mick, Mikaela Fabey, Hannah Hayduk, and Kate Soukup passing the baton in the event. The team would take bronze in the event, stacking up more team points for the Comets. The final event for Wednesday was the 10,000m Run, where Avery Morris took home a bronze medal and a new personal best.

Thursday is where action really amped up. Heather Hayduk was back in action with the throwers, taking 12th place in the Javelin Throw. Madalenn Fee would take to the jumping pits, where she would log a 5th place finish in the Long Jump. She would then get back on the track for the 1500m Run, grabbing a silver medal. In the same event, Kate Soukup was just behind, snaggingg 4th place and some valuable team points for Cottey. Mikaela Fabey would log a 5:22.25 on her way to 9th place in the event as well. Hannah Hayduk would earn another medal, when she took 2nd in the 400m Dash. Freshman Jessie Mick would earn a team point by taking 8th in the event. Fee and Soukup would lace up again for the 800m Run, taking 3rd and 4th respectively. In the 5k race, Kyndal Soukup, Taylor Rechenmacher, and Avery Morris would finish in 10th, 11th, and 12th place respectively. The final event of the Championships was the 4x400m relay, run by Jessie Mick, Kate Soukup, Madalenn Fee, and Hannah Hayduk. The team would take the silver medal in a riveting finish. 

Junior Madalenn Fee has qualified to run at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Marion, Indiana on May 21-23.
