Comets See Familiar Foes at UHSP Tournament

Another week on the road for the Cottey College Volleyball team, another tournament full of action for the Comets. This week it was the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics Classic in St. Louis, MO. The Comets came home with a 1-3 record on the weekend.

The first matchup saw the Comets take on York (NE) University once again, seeing the Panthers just a few weeks ago at another tournament. The scoreline was similar, with York taking a 3-1 victory over the Comets. Magdalen Dougherty did lead the way with 11 Kills and 8 Digs, but the Comets would fall short. Game two saw the Comets take on Evangel University. The Valor showed why their record is so stellar, putting up a 3-0 victory over Cottey. Kailee Hooper was the leader in the game for the Comets, grabbing 14 Digs and a Service Ace. The Comets would look to regroup over the evening and come back the next day with better results.

Those results would come, first in the form of a 3-1 victory over Friends University. Hooper would once again lead in Digs with 15, this time joined in double figures by Tatum Marang with 10 Digs. Marang would also put in work on the offensive side of the ball, garnering 17 Kills. Magdalen Doughtery would also have double digit Kills with 13 in the match. Laurencia Botts and Staley Stallaby would share setter duties, putting up 20 and 17 Assists respectively. The final contest of the tournament saw Cottey take on Culver-Stockton College, falling 1-3 in the contest. Marang and Dougherty would each have double digit kills once again, but the Comets did not have the same offensive firepower this time around.

The Comets record now stands at 4-9 Overall, with a road game at Haskell Indian Nations University on Tuesday before having the home opener this Saturday against York University.
