The Cottey College Comets were back on the road Tuesday evening to take on Haskell Indian Nations University in a Volleyball tilt. This would be the second time the two teams have matched up, with Cottey taking a 3-2 nailbiter at a previous tournament. This time around, the Comets controlled the flow of the match, taking a 3-1 victory.
The Comets were led in Kills once again by Magdalen Dougherty with 14, while Tatum Marang joined her in double figures with 11. Laurencia Botts and Staley Stallaby shared setting duties, putting up 18 and 15 Assists respectively. On the back line, the Comets had three players put up double digit Digs, with Kailee Hooper, Tatum Marang, and Staley Stallaby all making big defensive efforts. Gracie Mead showed her defensive prowess with three Block Assists, while Kailee Hooper had 3 Service Aces. Freshman Raelin Calderon took advantage of her opportunities on offense, putting up 5 Kills. The Comets took the first set in a nail-biter 26-24, as well as the 2nd set 25-23. Haskell would respond by taking the 3rd set before the Comets closed out the match with a 25-21 victory in the final set of action.
The win elevates Cottey's record to 5-9 Overall, with conference matches set to start next week. Before then, the Comets will host their Home Opener on Saturday in a matchup with York University. The match will be in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week, where fans are encouraged to wear purple or teal to the game. The match is set to start at 1pm
