Comets Volleyball Take Down Haskell on Senior Night

Comets Volleyball Take Down Haskell on Senior Night

Every collegiate athlete's playing career at home comes to an end at some point, and that was the case for two Comet Seniors on Tuesday evening. Laurencia Botts and Staley Stallaby took the court for the final time in Hinkhouse Gymnasium for Senior Night, going out on a high note with a 3-1 victory.

The Comets had control early, taking the first two sets with 25-20 and 25-21 scorelines. Haskell would not go away though, as they would take the third set 25-14 to force a fourth set. The Comets would go on two early runs with Magdalen Dougherty and Mckinzie Bohrer serving, putting some distance between the two teams. Haskell was not done however, fighting off six match points before the Comets were able to finally end the fourth set with a 25-23 win. Tatum Marang led the way with 11 Kills, while the Senior Setters would add 17 Assists each.

Botts, a senior from Los Angeles, CA, plans to graduate in the spring with a degree in Biology. The daughter of Bo and Catarina Botts is also a member of the Basketball and Flag Football teams at Cottey. Stallaby, from Fort Worth, TX, plans to graduate in the spring with a degree in Business Administration. She is the daughter of Stan and Steveanna Stallaby, and has been a four year starter for the Comets.

The season is not over for the Comets, with three critical road trips coming up. Cottey will take on William Woods on November 1st, before finishing with a back to back at Williams Baptist and Crowley's Ridge on November 7th and 8th. The Comets are fighting for a spot in the AMC Conference Tournament, so every match holds a little extra weight from here on out. Cottey does control their own destiny, but need to perform well in the final two weeks of the season.
