Cottey Cross Country Competes at Southern Stampede

Cottey Cross Country Competes at Southern Stampede

In one of the largest cross country meets in the entire state of Missouri, the Cottey Comets held their own. The Comets finished 11th in a field that included multiple NCAA Division II national champion programs, and some Division I programs.

Madalenn Fee was the top Comet finisher in 27th, running a time of 19:14 to lead the team. Avery Morris was the next Cottey Comet to cross the finish line, taking home 63rd place. The Comets had a run of teammates all finish between 21:43 and 22:01, with Mikaela Fabey, Joliette Johnson, Jessie Mick, and Hannah Hayduk all putting in solid times. The race was a 5K, just shorter than the new 6K championship distance instituted last season.

The Comets now turn their attention to Columbia, MO and the Gans Creek Classic. This race is a good preview of the National Championships, which will be held on the same course. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:15am on Friday, September 27th.
