Comets Extend Home Winning Streak to 23

The Comets (5-1) extend their home winning streak to 23. The streak which spans the course of the last 3 seasons was put to the test by MidAmerica Nazarene (0-2). 

 

Game 1

 

Aryana Palencia came the ballpark and meant business on Saturday, driving in six on three hits to lead the Comets past the Pioneers 7-1 on Saturday.

 

The Comets started early when Palencia homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring 3 runs to set the tone for the rest of the game. The second basemen would go on to hit another 3-run home run in the sixth inning. Lacey Cruz took the the mound in game 1 and only gave up 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 5 Pioneers in the win. The Comets defense came up strong for Cruz, not committing a single error in the game. 

 

Amelia Gassman and Aryana Palencia both had 3 hits, while MidAmerica Nazarene was led by Morgan Fouch with 2 hits.

 

Game 2

 

Cottey ran off with the lead late in a 9-7 victory over the Pioneers in Game 2. MidAmerica Nazarene would start the game with all the momentum, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom the 4th. The Comets were able to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. The game would remain tied 3-3 until the bottom of the sixth when Lauren Johnson singled to bring in 1 run and break the tie. The bats would come alive, with the Comets scoring 6 runs in the inning. This included Karina Ramirez, who would get one of her two steals on the day, stealing home. The Pioneers would not go away easy, as they posted 4 runs in the top of 7th to make the game interesting, but the late push was not enough. 

 

Karina Ramirez, Aryana Palencia, and Alyssa Montoya all had 2 hits in the game. 

 

Amelia Gassman would receive the win, pitching 4.2 innings of work. 

 

The Comets travel to Saint Mary on Wednesday for a non-conference double header.
