Comets beat Texas A&M Texarkana at LSU-A Tournament - Weekend Recap

The weather did not want to cooperate at the LSU-A Tournament, but the Comets still got three games in before weather struck. The Comets went 1-2 at the tournament, with their victory over Texas A&M Texarkana being the  first of the season. The Comets fell to Houston-Victoria and Louisiana Christian in the other two matchups. All games were held on Friday, February 9th throughtout the day.

The first matchup with Texas A&M Texarkana saw the Comets put 2 runs on the baord in the top of the 1st inning on a Lauren Johnson double, and a Mak Snyder single. Alyssa Montoya was in the pitching circle for the Comets, throwing all 8 innings, scattering 3 runs througout the contest and striking out 6 batters. In extra innings, Montoya took the team and put them on her back, singling in the winning RBI before shutting down Eagles 1-2-3 to finish the game. 

Game 2 saw the Comets take on the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars. The game was back and forth throughout, with both teams putting runs on the baord. Madison Hyder was the leader at the plate, going 3-3 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. alyssa Montoya also put up 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Brooke Vicory was the starter on the mound, while Braylen Ford and Amelia Gassman each pitched an inning apiece. In the end, the Jaguars prevailed over the Comets 8-7.

The final contest saw the Comets against Louisiana Christian. The long day finally caught up to the Comets as they fell 8-0. Karina Ramirez paced the Comets while going 2-3 from the plate. Abigail McPherson was in the circle handling pitching duties.

Cottey returns closer to home for a Double Header at Kansas Wesleyan Tuesday.
