The first Home series of the year proved to be just the jumpstart Cottey Softball needed to get the ball rolling. They took both games from Evangel with scores of 9-3, and 4-0.
In Game 1, it was Sophomore Amelia Gassman in the pitching circle, where she went all 7 innings. She spread 5 hits over 7 innings to limit Evangel to 3 runs. The Comets were powered by three Home Runs in Game 1, including Senior Madison Hyder's first career HR as a Comet. She went 2 for 3 on the day and knocked in 3 RBIs. Jenna Wilson also had a Home Run and 3 RBIs, while Aariana Castillo was the final Comet to go yard in Game 1.
Game 2 was much more of a pitchers duel, where Brooke Vicory pitched 7 shutout innings to take the win. She spread 3 hits out over the entire game, while striking out 4. Senior Lauren Johnson provided the offensive spark with her 2nd Home Run of the season. She went 3 for 3, with 2 RBIs, while also scoring 2 runs herself. Aariana Castillo provided the other two hits for the Comets, including a double. The defense was stellar on the day, with no errors recorded in 14 innings of work.
The wins lift the Comets to 5-6 Overall. The Comets take on Kansas Weseleyan Tuesday at Home for a Double Header, with gametimes set for 1pm and 3pm.
