Four Softball Comets Make AMC All-Tournament Team

After a successful Championship-winning tournament, Cottey College had multiple players receive All-Tournament honors for their performances last week.

Senior Alyssa Montoya was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Montoya started in three of the four games the Comets won, posting a 1.94 ERA for the week. She also batted .500, and scored a run to help on the offensive side. She pitched a complete game in the Championship against Williams Baptist, anchoring the Comets to their first ever American Midwest Conference Tournament title.

The Comets also had Senior Lauren Johnson, Sophomore Amelia Gassman, and Senior Brooke Vicory represented on the All-Tournament Team. Johnson's performance against Central Baptist powered her way onto the All-Tournament Team, where she registered a Double and a Triple to go along with a couple RBIs. Gassman was the most consistent Comet of the Tournament, having an RBI in the final three games, including a bunt single to open the Championship game scoring. Vicory may have saved her best performances of the season for this tournament. She pitched a masterful 2-hit shutout against #1 seed Missouri Baptist, going the distance for a complete game. She also came in against Central Baptist for the final three innings, holding off the Mustangs charge.
