Comets prepare for AMC Cross Country Championship

Comets prepare for AMC Cross Country Championship

The postseason is here for the Cross Country Comets, taking their talents to Hannibal, MO, where they will compete at the AMC Cross Country Championship. The Comets finished in 3rd at the Conference Championship in 2023, and look to improve upon that performance this season.

Junior Madalenn Fee finished in 5th place individually last year, which was enough to qualify for the NAIA National Championship. The top team, and the next four individuals qualify for the National Championship, which will be held in Columbia, MO this season. The Comets return four out of five of their top runners from last season, while also making a few additions. Sophomore Avery Morris was last year's Freshman of the Year for the Conference, so she will be looking to make some waves this postseason. The 2023 version saw Missouri Baptist and William Woods neck and neck for the team title, while William Woods Mekayla Gibson won the individual title.

This year's event will feature a 6K race for the Women. The course will weave throughout the campus at Hannibal-LaGrange University, who is hosting this years event. A loop near the starting line will prove to be a pivotal spot on the course, as competitors will have a clear view of each other as they jockey for positioning.

The runners will take the starting line at 11:30am on Friday. Stay tuned for the recap and full results.
