Madalenn Fee Qualifies for NAIA Cross Country National Championship

The Cottey Cross Country team took the line at the AMC Cross Country Conference Championship on Friday, rubbing elbows with conference rivals. The Comets had a National Qualifier finisher in Madalenn Fee's 2nd place performance. The top team and the next four individuals each qualified for the NAIA National Championship in a few weeks. Fee's time of 22:25 put her solidly in 2nd place, punching her ticket to Columbia, MO. William Woods were the top finishing team, while Mekayla Gibson was the individual champion.

The Comets finished in fourth place during the competition, narrowly missing out on a third place finish. A couple Comets just missed out on the Top 10 and All-Conference honors when Sophomore Avery Morris and Junior Joliette Johnson finished in 12th and 13th place respectively. Senior Mikaela Fabey was the next Comet to cross the line, taking 17th place. Senior Taylor Rechenmacher and Junior Kate Soukup would take 24th and 25th, with Kyndal Soukup just behind in 27th. Freshman Jessie Mick would take 30th, and Junior Hannah Hayduk would finish in 31st. Most of the Comets will now turn towards Indoor Track Season, which begins in the next few weeks.

For Madalenn Fee, the Cross Country season continues for a few more weeks. She will take the starting line at the 2024 NAIA Cross Country National Championship at 11:30am on November 22nd in Columbia, MO. Gans Creek Cross Country Course is a place Fee has some familiarity with, having competed at a race there earlier in the season. This will mark Fee's 2nd appearance as a National Qualifier.
