Cottey splits home Doubleheader with Kansas Wesleyan

Cottey's run of home action continued tuesday with the Comets took on the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan. The teams split the contests, with KWU winning Game 1 in a 2-1 thriller, while Cottey controlled Game 2 in a 10-0 run rule contest.

Game 1 saw Amelia Gassman in the circle for the Comets. She kept the Coyotes at bay for most of the contest before crucial errors allowed KWU to score 2 in the top of the 5th. Catcher Lauren Johnson would answer in the bottom of the 6th with a solo Home Run. But, the Comets could not capitalize in the 7th with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, ending the contest with the 2-1 margin.

Game 2 saw a Comet team with a fire lit underneath them. Senior Lauren Johnson, as DP this game, whacked 2 more Home Runs to pace the Comets offense, with a total of 5 RBIs. Amelia Gassman also went yard for Cottey with a solo Home Run in the 2nd inning. Karina Ramirez also went 2 for 3 at the plate at the leadoff spot. Brooke Vicory went all 5 innings in the pitchers circle for the Comets, shutting the Coyotes down.

Cottey will head to the Friends Tournament where they are scheduled to have 5 contests over two days.
